Call for Papers on Thornton Wilder: Dramatizing Ideas

American Literature Association Conference

May 26-29, 2011, The Westin Copley Place, Boston, MA

The Wilder Society is calling for 15-20 minute paper proposals on Thornton Wilder’s plays as part of a series of panels on the topic “Dramatizing Ideas” sponsored by the ATDS, the Susan Glaspell Society, the Arthur Miller Society, the Eugene O’Neill Society, and the Thornton Wilder Society.  We welcome proposals not only on Our Town, The Skin of Our Teeth, and The Matchmaker, but also on The Alcestiad, or any of his more than thirty one-act plays (including his “three-minute plays for three persons”), or his script for the 1943 Alfred Hitchcock film Shadow of A Doubt, published for the first time in Thornton Wilder: Collected Plays and Writings on Theater, edited J. D. McClatchy (Library of America, 2007).

We encourage graduate students as well as established scholars to submit 500-word proposals including name, academic affiliation, e-mail address, and paper title by January 24, 2011 to
